(1997/98) Jascha's story: "So this one time myself and a few others were having a barbecue on the balcony (the room on the left here), and the wind shifted such that all the smoke blew into my room. The smoke alarm went off, so we put out the barbecue and ate poorly.
"Except . . . for the next several days my smoke alarm would go off for a minute or two now and again randomly . . .
"Then, one afternoon, it goes off and after about 10 minutes still hasn't stopped. So, we call Campus Life. They send over an electrician, who tries to replace the smoke alarm. He takes down the old one . . . but he's not tall enough to install the new one . . . . and he didn't bring a ladder. So, rather than go on a fun fruitless ladder search, I volunteer to stand on a chair and do the installation. He tells me to put the black wire in the ground hole. Done. Then, he tells me to put the red wire in that other hole . . . .
'Really? this one?' I ask.
'Yes,' he insists.
So, I put the wire in the hole. Sparks shower down on my head. And the lights go out. For half of 2 Main."
